Tukul steals State Palace show

Comedian-turned-TV host Tukul Arwana (left in photo above) stole the show at the State Palace when he took part in a function there Thursday.

Tukul, a model for several jamu (herbal medicine) products, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Fifth National Congress of the Association of Jamu Producers.

Despite his brief appearance at the event, the TV host managed to lure the attention of the majority of those in attendance, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

When it came time for an informal session centered on greeting the President, it was Yudhoyono who took the initiative to ask the host of the Empat Mata (Four Eyes) talk show on Trans 7 television station to have their photograph taken.

The President also mimicked Tukul's popular quote in his talk show: "Kembali ke laptop (Let us look back at the laptop)."

It was Tukul's second direct encounter with Yudhoyono after he accompanied the then-chairman of the National Sports Committee Agum Gumelar to an event. The artist did not elaborate on the date of his first meeting with the President.

When asked by palace correspondents, Tukul could not hide his desire to have the President appear on his television program.

"Whenever (the President) is ready, even tomorrow, I will always be there," he said, regretting he did not take the chance to personally invite Yudhoyono onto his show.

After the session with the President concluded, it was the journalists who then asked the comedian to have his pictures taken with them.
